# Typesense > Typesense is an open source search engine for developers and AI agents. Use it to add search to websites, web apps, mobile apps, devices, desktop apps, or really anything else that needs full-text search alongside modern AI-powered retrieval. It combines typo-tolerant keyword search with vector, semantic, hybrid, Natural Language Search, and geo search through a developer-friendly REST API. Typesense is designed to deliver fast search-as-you-type experiences with relevant results out of the box. It focuses on site and app search, with sensible defaults for common use cases and query-time controls for teams that need more tuning. No PhD required. The same search API can run as a self-hosted native binary or Docker container, or as a dedicated managed cluster on Typesense Cloud. The open source server includes Raft clustering with automatic leader election and failover. Typesense Cloud adds managed operations, a visual dashboard, self-service scaling, geo-distributed search delivery, team access, SSO, role-based access control, and support plans. Core capabilities include typo tolerance, tunable relevance, filtering and faceting, dynamic sorting without duplicate indices, grouping, synonyms, merchandising, federated search, joins, geo search, vector search, semantic and hybrid search, Natural Language Search, recommendations, and conversational search with built-in RAG. Typesense can generate embeddings through supported model providers or use embeddings supplied by the application. ## Documentation - [Typesense documentation index](https://typesense.org/docs/llms.txt): A compact, structured index of the documentation. -
